Daily Meditation for July 3, 2020

This is a light-hearted meditation in a time of sorrow. Millions of people throughout the world are affected by the coronavirus, and the continued threat posed by racism means that many people who populate our planet live in constant fear. Not much to lift the spirit there. Yet, it’s essential to see the good in the world, to appreciate the beauty of nature, to have a treat to look forward to. It’s moments like these which somehow renew our energy and ability to combat all the misery that surrounds us. Just as the body needs food to keep functioning, so our inner selves need joy, beauty, love and happiness to nourish them. To recognize this as a human need is not to diminish the horror that the world contains, but to acknowledge that we need sustenance for the fight. Eat that candy bar! It might be the very thing the whole “you” needs right now.
