National Day of Mourning and Lament

Sisters of the Order of Saint Benedict is a member of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR), “an association of the leaders of congregations of Catholic women religious in the United States.” LCWR is partnering with other faith leaders in calling for all people to spend time during the weekend of May 29–31 to lament and mourn the 100,000 persons who will have died in the United States from COVID-19. The call also asks people to pause at 12 p.m. on June 1 to honor the deceased. This time will be marked by moments of silence, lowering of flags, interfaith vigils and prayers, ringing of bells and civic memorials. This effort is also being supported by the U.S. Conference of Mayors who represent more than 1,400 mayors across the country. We hope you will join us in honoring the lives of the deceased as well as praying for healing.
