These days, it’s easy to forget the importance of gratitude. Some people say that being grateful is a sign of maturity. Growing up means experiencing adventures in life that are both exciting and challenging. It also means bumping into some of the hard realities and scary events that make us want to stay frozen in place. I don’t want to grow up if this must be part of the deal. I don’t feel grateful for these hard and scary things. Being grateful for the adventures that are bright and full of new experiences is easy. Facing the tough stuff is another matter. Growing up, becoming mature, happens when we learn to be grateful for all of it. But it’s not a simple thing. How can we be grateful for what is happening in our world and in our nation and in our own personal lives right now? It’s hard, but it’s possible. Well, I’m not so sure about that. I guess I have some growing up to do.
