Daily Meditation for November 29, 2019

It was the custom in the Christian family for guests to bring a small dessert for the casual meal of Thanksgiving Day-leftovers enjoyed at their home on Black Friday. Just for a change, Marne suggested that those who wanted could bring a thanksgiving quote as the trimming for a dessert she’d make. Tim started the sharing with “Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.” Janice and her daughter, Ellie, were so touched by Meister Eckhart’s words that they repeated his quote several times: “If the only prayer you say in your whole life is ‘Thank you’ that would suffice.” By the giggles that accompanied Jake’s kids, you could tell they liked theirs: “It’s not happy people who are thankful, it’s thankful people who are happy.” With these and others favorite quotes, a new tradition was begun.
