Sometimes we just take life for granted and forget the amazing reality that surrounds us. As the season of summer’s bounty concludes and we prepare to celebrate God’s goodness, let us look for the little things of the natural world that we might have missed. In the words of Thomas Traherne in the hymn, “Wonder”: “The skies in their magnificence, The lively, lovely air; O how divine, how soft, how sweet, how fair! The stars did entertain my sense, And all the works of God so bright and pure. So rich and great did seem…” It is true that nature’s mystery confronts us at all times and everywhere. To let ourselves wonder, to take the time and wisdom to contemplate these wonders, promises refreshment for the soul.
