Candles are used at so many occasions: times of elegance, times of vigil, occasions that mark anniversaries, weddings, birth, death, signs of protest, remembrance and all occasions in between. The live flame which can destroy or give heat and light shows support, celebrates or becomes a wordless prayer. Most of all the flame speaks of continuing presence and faithful remembering. A burning candle must go through a total change of form to give off light: from a solid to a liquid. A candle completely uses itself up to perform its function. It is totally consumed in complete generosity. Thus, a candle is a symbol for us to give of ourselves, our time, our talents, our attention, our remembrance and our love. So, please light a candle this season and remember to share who you are and what you can do for a noble cause.
