“Dawn and resurrection are synonymous. The reappearance of the light is the same as the survival of the soul” (Victor Hugo). Christ is risen! The days are getting longer in the northern hemisphere and signs of spring and budding new life are all around us. What a meditation it is each day as dawn breaks and the sun rises to see this a symbol of our own passage through life and death to the light of a new life in Christ. It’s also a symbol of how we experience life on a day-to-day basis. There are times of darkness and times of joy in every life. What the Resurrection promises, and the dawn symbolizes, is that darkness does not conquer light. Our Easter celebration of Christ’s Resurrection is the promise of our loving God that we, too, will rise one day, that death is not the end. We are promised new life in Christ.
