It’s March! Spring is coming and, as Pope Francis tells us, “Lent comes providentially to reawaken us, to shake us from our lethargy.” What an inspiring way to approach Lent! Many dread the season, seeing it as a miserable trial which contrasts with the joy of Easter. Pope Francis reminds us that there is another way to approach Lent, to see it as a time for spring-cleaning our spirit, a time to release our energy and zest for life. Let’s do a mind flip and, instead of approaching Lent with a downcast heart, start to walk a Lenten path of promise, which is the approach to the glory of celebrating the Resurrection. Maybe it’s a narrow path, maybe there is baggage that we need to shed, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a path of anticipation and excitement. Enjoy your Lent, enjoy the preparation for Easter when we meet the risen Christ!
