Daily Meditation for January 2, 2019

Ronald Rolheiser writes in his book, The Holy Longing: “It is no easy task to walk this earth and find peace. Inside of us, it would seem, something is at odds with the very rhythm of things, and we are forever restless.” St. Augustine in the early fifth century said something similar: “You have made us for yourself, God, and our hearts are restless until they rest in You.” While we cannot know perfect peace and fulfillment on earth, we can and do experience moments and even prolonged periods of peace and happiness as we encounter God in the events and people of our lives. Today, be attuned to the love of God through your family and friends. Notice the beauty of the Creator in the increased presence of light. Give thanks for God’s presence as you drink in a deep breath of life.
