It all started when several guests who were invited to George and Mary Miller’s Thanksgiving dinner asked what they could bring. After a little thought, Mary suggested that each family could bring a thanksgiving quote that could be shared as part of the dessert. Two chose quotes from William Arthur Ward. Marcy’s included a question that some of you might wish to answer: “God gave you a gift of 86,400 seconds today. Have you used one of these seconds to say ‘thank you’?” Chuck smiled as he shared his: “Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.” Maribeth and her daughter, Elsey, were so touched by Meister Eckhart’s words that they repeated his quote several times: “If the only prayer you say in your whole life is ‘Thank you,’ that would suffice.” With these and others favorite quotes, a new tradition was begun.
