The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at the Sacred Heart Chapel, Saint Benedict’s Monastery, St. Joseph, for Sister Marette Malley who died on Sunday, February 27, 2011, at Saint Scholastica Convent, St. Cloud. Burial will be in the monastery cemetery. Friends may call at Saint Scholastica Convent on Tuesday, March 1, from 1-6 p.m., or for a Vigil Prayer Service at 7 p.m. at Saint Benedict’s Monastery. Visitation continues at 9 a.m. until the funeral on Wednesday, March 2, at 4 p.m.

S. Marette (Marcella) Malley was born on September 15, 1920, to Andrew and Frances (Finken) Malley in Albany, Minnesota. She entered Saint Benedict’s Monastery in 1941, made first monastic profession on July 11, 1943 and perpetual profession on July 11, 1946.

As an educator, S. Marette served in elementary schools at St. Bernard’s in St. Paul; St. Mary’s Cathedral and St. John Cantius in St. Cloud; Elrosa; St. Joseph Lab School, St. Joseph; Hutchinson; and Melrose. After 35 years of teaching, she served at St. Cloud Hospital in medical records and at Saint Benedict’s Monastery in the secretarial and liturgy offices. In May 1995, she went to Saint Scholastica Convent, where she assisted as receptionist, worked with computers, cared for plants and helped other Sisters in many ways. Gardening, reading, crossword puzzles and playing cards were among her delights. She will be remembered for the delicious cookies she loved to bake.

S. Marette is survived by her Benedictine community, a sister-in-law, Lucille Malley, a nephew, Al (Lynn) Malley, of Albany, Minn.; a niece, Debbie (Scott) Stoermann of Freeport, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her brother, Alphonse.
