Daily Meditation for April 1, 2010

by Ruth Stanley

Today is Holy Thursday, or Maundy Thursday as it is sometimes called. Holy Thursday is a day of celebration in remembrance of Jesus’ final mandatum or command to love one another as God has loved us. Over Good Friday, Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday, we will witness how Jesus lives this commandment in the face of friendship, betrayal, suffering, death, and resurrection. Anchored in the unconditional love of God, Jesus was able to embrace the mysteries of his short life. We, too, are offered this same anchor in the mysteries of our life. During these Holy days, let us open our hearts to the love that sustains all.
