Daily Meditation for January 12, 2010

by Ruth Stanley, OSB

“I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.” These words spoken so eloquently by Martin Luther King Jr., embody his life and ministry as a leader of the nonviolent movement in the 1950s and ‘60s. Over and over again he spoke out against the senseless violence we create in our lives when we harbor hate in our hearts for any reason. When we choose love rather than hate, respect rather than abuse, hope rather than despair, light rather than darkness … we choose freedom, a freedom shared by all. “I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.” What do you choose today?
