Daily Meditation for January 6, 2010

by Mary Weidner, OSB

The twelfth day of Christmas marks the Feast of Epiphany, a feast of light. On this day we remember the wise, who followed a star that led them to the newborn Christ Child.
Sometimes a star shows up in our lives, too. It might shine through a specific event, a good book or a special encounter. We may discover the face of Christ in the forgiveness we notice in another’s eyes. We may recognize the hands and feet of Christ in a group of Habitat for Humanity house builders. Courageous words against an injustice might be the voice of Christ for us. The unselfish actions of a loving parent or a food shelf volunteer might point to the heart of Christ. Today, as you remember the wise ones who followed the Bethlehem star, be watchful for the stars that show up in your life. Watch, too, for opportunities to be a guiding star for others.
