Daily Meditation for December 31, 2009

by Miriam Ardolf, OSB

Another year comes to an end! Interesting, how our lives are marked by beginnings and endings and we often forget about all the “in-betweens.” What went on in your life between January 1 and December 31, 2009? Some people will just dismiss the year as a difficult one because of the economy; others will term the year as a year of “firsts” – first time away from home, first grandchild; having learned a new skill, taken on a new project, made a new friend. Many of us will look upon the past year in gratefulness. Life always has challenges and many opportunities for which to be thankful, and now it is time to look forward. T. S. Eliot says it best, “Last year’s words belong to last year’s language and next year’s words await another voice. And to make an end is to make a beginning.” Happy New Year!
