Daily Meditation for December 25, 2009

by Joyce Iten, OSB

Once again Christmas has arrived in our lives. What significance does this day hold for each of us? Do we count ourselves among the Christians of the world who listen once again to the Christmas story and try to absorb the profound mystery of love and peace spoken through the birth and life of Jesus? Or do we find ourselves among those who feel disillusioned this Christmas because of financial, health or other worries? Living in a culture that screams out the importance of buying, accumulating and exchanging gifts is difficult. We may find ourselves exhausted, maybe even disinterested in the meaning and significance of Christmas. In the true spirit of Christmas, may each of us reach out to others as well as receive what others extend to us in gestures of love, care and peace. Christmas Peace and Blessings to each of you!
