Daily Meditation for November 25, 2009

by Kathryn Casper, OSB

The writer Thich Nhat Hanh reminds us how to be grateful. He writes: “People usually consider walking on water or on thin air a miracle. But I think the real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air,but to walk on earth. Every day we are engaged in a miracle which we don’t even recognize: a blue sky, white clouds, green leaves, the black, curious eyes of a child–our own two eyes. All is a miracle.” This Thanksgiving, before the meal, ask your family members and friends to name one or two small miracles for which they are grateful. After this litany of gratitude, offer a prayer of thanksgiving to our good and loving God, from whom all miracles come. Happy Thanksgiving!
