From Sister Lois Wedl
“Are you or aren’t you joining the convent?” As a 17-year-old senior at St. Boniface High School in Cold Spring, Minnesota, I was stopped in the middle of a school hallway by Sister Martin Fiedler as I was rushing to my next class and asked to answer this question. She needed to know immediately because I was the school’s choice to receive a full scholarship to the School of Medical Technology at the St. Cloud Hospital. However, if I was going to Saint Benedict’s Monastery, as Sister had heard me say at times, I wouldn’t have any need for the scholarship and it would be awarded to someone else!
A real toss-up! Convent or Medical Technology? In that moment, I’m not sure I really wanted either. Today, I might have asked: Could I have a little time to think about it? But I had to answer then and there! Well, my response is evident! Here I am more than sixty years later (And happily so)!
Are you at that point in your life where you need to make a decision? Or is God tugging at your heart and you need time to discover what God is calling you to? I invite you to explore your vocation at Saint Benedict’s Monastery. It is certain to be an adventure, and it is certain to at least draw you closer to God. Whether you decide, as I did, to embark on a life as a Benedictine Sister, or you choose another path, our Vocation program can help you see the possibilities.

Sister Juliana's Story
Sister Juliana entered the monastery in 1952, and has had a long history in nursing. She has worked primarily in nursing homes (now called long-term care facilities), including St. Raphael's Home and St. Joseph's Home, two facilities in St. Cloud run by the Sisters; Saint Scholastica Convent and St. Benedict's Senior Community. For the past 18 years she has been the coordinator of community health services, a liaison for Sisters needing health care, particularly at St. Cloud Hospital. Below is a video of her vocation story-- both her religious and professional vocations.
