New exhibit to open at the Whitby Gift Shop and Gallery on July 20, 2008

“Wood, Warp and Weft,” a new exhibit featuring wood turning by Bob Carls and weaving by Amy Sharpe, opens at the Whitby Gift Shop and Gallery on Sunday, July 20, 2008
“Wood, Warp and Weft” is the third of four gallery shows hosted in 2008 by the Whitby Gift Shop and Gallery at The Art and Heritage Place at Saint Benedict’s Monastery. The exhibit features wood turning by Bob Carls, and weaving by Amy Sharpe. The show opens on Sunday, July 20, with an introduction of the artists at 2 p.m. The exhibition continues through August 31, 2008.

Benedictine Sisters honor Diamond, Golden and Silver Jubilarians

The monastic community honored the 60th, 75th and 85th jubilarians at a 10:30 a.m. Eucharist in the Sacred Heart Chapel at Saint Benedict’s Monastery in St. Joseph, Minn. on Saturday, April 19, 2008.
The monastic community will honor the 25th and 50th jubilarians at a 10:30 a.m. Eucharist in the Sacred Heart Chapel at Saint Benedict’s Monastery in St. Joseph, Minn. on Sunday, July 20, 2008. The public is invited to attend a reception from 2 – 4 p.m. Please come to the Gathering Place in the Sacred Heart Chapel to find out where various receptions are held throughout the monastery campus.

Sister Linda Kulzer Gender Education and Development Award Established

Rita Knuesel, Ph. D., Provost at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University, recently announced an award established in honor of S. Linda Kulzer, Professor Emerita of Education. She states: [S. Linda, is a] “… pioneer and risk-taker in the area of gender studies. She was the driving force in our colleges’ earliest efforts to integrate gender into our curriculum.”

A new exhibit delves into this discourse with a unique, visual study. “Insight and Access into the Divine: Experiencing the Holy through the Visual,” opens March 9, 2008, at the Art and Heritage Place, Haehn Museum, Saint Benedict’s Monastery, St. Joseph, Minn.
