Our Mission

We, the Sisters of the Order of Saint Benedict in St. Joseph, Minn., are a monastic community of women who seek God in our daily lives according to the Gospel and the Rule of Benedict. Through our ministry of prayer, work and community living, we listen and respond to the needs of the Church and the world.

Prayer Requests

As a Benedictine monastic community, a significant part of our mission is prayer. Is there someone or something you would like us to pray for? You’re invited to share your special intentions with us. You will be remembered during our daily prayer of Liturgy of the Hours, and your request will be shared on a community bulletin board seen by the sisters every day.

It is our privilege to pray for you. God bless you!

Message From the Prioress

Blessings on you as we continue to celebrate the Easter season! Eastertide lasts until Pentecost, a full 50 days. It’s a good reminder that Easter doesn’t happen once a year and then it’s over. We are an Easter people, renewed and reborn every day through Baptism and the Resurrection.

Daily Meditation for Thursday, April 18

Listening to someone is indeed a fine art. It demands one’s full attention … one’s two ears, two eyes, and one’s heart. It says to the one speaking that what they have to say is worth listening to. It is an affirmation for the one speaking when those who listen have their full attention on what is being said. One can learn so much just from really listening to what others have to say. Even children notice when others listen to them. Little Joey said he loved his uncle Jim the best because, “When I talk to him, he listens with his eyes.” Thus good listening demands both ears, both eyes, and one’s heart. A retired war veteran sat in his wheelchair by the restaurant and listen to people. The business at the restaurant doubled! Listening is indeed a very fine art!
