The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 3:30 p.m. on Wed., Jan. 30, 2008, at the Sacred Heart Chapel, Saint Benedict’s Monastery, St. Joseph, for Sister Lea Aydt, who died on Jan. 27, 2008, at Saint Scholastica Convent. Burial will be in the monastery cemetery. Friends may call at Saint Scholastica Convent, St. Cloud, on Tues., Jan. 29, from 1-6 p.m., or for a Vigil Prayer Service at 7 p.m. at Saint Benedict’s Monastery. Visitation continues at 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral on Wed., Jan. 30, at 3:30 p.m.
S. Lea Aydt was born on November 4, 1909, to Ignatius and Frances (Schumacher) Aydt in St. Michael, Minn. She entered Saint Benedict’s Monastery on October 30, 1935; was received into the novitiate on June 16, 1936; made first monastic profession on July 11, 1937 and perpetual profession on July 11, 1940.
S. Lea served as homemaker, housekeeper and in food service at St. Joseph’s Home, Holy Angels and Cathedral High School Convent in St. Cloud; St. Paul House of Studies in St. Paul; St. Mary’s Mission in Red Lake; St. Cloud Hospital; St. Joseph Convent, Minneapolis; and St. Anthony’s Convent in Watkins. She moved to Saint Scholastica in 1998 where she assisted in the dining room and was engaged in a ministry of prayer and community living.
S. Lea is survived by the Sisters of her Benedictine community, one brother (Austin) in Monticello, and two sisters (Ruth, Minneapolis; and Carmen Thomas, Roseville). Four brothers (Victor, Alquin, Anselm and Brother Remy, CSC) and three sisters (Marcella, Inez and Irma) preceded her in death.
